Atkinson, Henry
General Atkinson is who the fort was named after. He commanded the
Yellowstone Expedition 1 that brought the Sixth Infantry and First Riflemen to
and built first Cantonment Missouri and then Fort Atkinson. All that is known of
General Atkinson's resting place is that he was moved from Jefferson Barracks
near Saint Louis to Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, KY. If anyone has any more
information, or can send a picture, please contact us.

Chambers, Talbot
Foster, William S.
William S. Foster was in command of the post during the Arickaree Campaign and at other times for short periods.
He died, of yellow fever, in Baton Rouge while in command of the troops there in 1839. He was buried at the cemetery for Baton Rouge Barracks. His stone was still there through the early 1880's. With the development of that area the graves were removed to another site, his remains were not identified, his stone was not found.

Leavenworth, Henry
Henry Leavenworth was interred in the Delhi, NY cemetery from June 1835 to 1902. Since 1902 his remains have been at the Fort Leavenworth National
Cemetery at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Martin, Wily
As far as we know at this time, his final resting place is in or near Richmond,
TX.
Morgan, Willoughby
Lieutenant Colonel Morgan of the First Regiment U.States Riflemen
commanded the garrison, including both the Sixth Infantry and First Riflemen,
during the winter of 1819-1820 while Cols. Henry Atkinson and Talbot Chambers
wintered in St. Louis. Lt. Col. Morgan again commanded the post from the
autumn of 1820 until replaced by Col. Henry Leavenworth in 1822 when he was
transferred to the Fifth Infantry at Fort Snelling. Col. Morgan died as
Colonel of the First Infantry at Fort Crawford on April 4, 1832. Below are
pictures of his resting place.


Wooley, Abram
As far as we know, Abram Woolley is buried in Springfield, NJ. If anyone
can confirm this either way and provide any more information, we would really
appreciate it.
